Google and T-Mobile today announced a new partnership where Google’s suite of services will be offered on Android devices sold by T-Mo. Among the products and services that will be offered include Google’s Android Messages (with RCS) as a default mode for messaging, YouTube TV, Google One, and Pixel.
Part of the partnership paves the way for T-Mobile changing its TVision Live, Live Plus, and Live Zone services in the back burner. In its place, T-Mobile will be offering YouTube TV to its customers. In line with the announcement, the Un-Carrier is currently offering $10 off the service. They will also be offering three months of free YouTube Premium once the service has launched.
In addition to TVision, T-Mobile is making Google’s Messages app the default option for its Android devices. This means that users will be able to enjoy RCS standard on this app and end-to-end encryption. The switch to Google Messages app as the default will happen before the year ends.
For Google’s part, the partnership gives them another US carrier that will carry their Pixel line of phones. Verizon used to be their premier partner, but since this did not materialize into big numbers, it gave Google a chance to look for more avenues to market their phones. And with T-Mobile’s 5G network, it looks pretty promising.
