A Hawaii-based wireless carrier is in complete disarray after its CEO allegedly fled the country, leaving customers without service and scrambling to switch providers. Mobi, which operates on T-Mobile's network, appeared to be a reliable option for wireless service just months ago, but the company has now imploded amid serious accusations of financial misconduct.
According to Android Authority, a lawsuit filed in late November claims the CEO withheld over $1 million in employee wages and fired senior executives without proper authority. The situation has rapidly deteriorated since then, with customers reporting widespread service outages and in some cases, complete service shutdowns. Making matters worse, the CEO has reportedly left the United States for Brazil, seemingly to avoid the mounting legal troubles.
For Mobi customers still on the network, the advice is clear: switch carriers immediately if you can. Some subscribers are having difficulty accessing their account information needed to port their numbers to new providers, which complicates the exit process. While the company may eventually provide a way for remaining customers to transfer their details, waiting could mean being stuck without service as the business continues to unravel.
The collapse marks a dramatic fall for a carrier that was once considered trustworthy within its primary Hawaii market. What appeared to be internal financial problems have now become a full-blown crisis, leaving customers in the lurch and highlighting the risks of choosing smaller wireless providers without thoroughly vetting their business practices.
