Scams and phishing attacks are rampant these days. This is why it’s important for subscribers to be on the lookout for such attempts.
In the case of one T-Mobile subscriber, he almost got scammed after receiving a couple of calls from the same number. The first phone call got flagged as a potential scam so the subscriber hung up. On the second attempt, the subscriber picked up the call and entertained the caller.
The caller asked if the customer already set up his account on T-Mobile. When he answered yes, the caller asked for his account PIN. Fortunately, the recipient gave the wrong number on purpose. The caller then hung up the phone call.
Considering the fact that wireless providers refrain from asking the customer’s PIN to verify a call they initiated, this was sketchy. Thankfully, the subscriber was already cautious and gave out the wrong number.
A good practice is to refrain from answering unknown numbers. Even if the call shows that it is coming from your wireless carrier, it may not be true. The best practice is to avoid answering such calls and call your carrier with a phone number obtained from their official website. You can then ask them why they called you in the first place.
