Uh-oh! It looks like there’s a new device that’s following the footsteps of the doomed Samsung Galaxy Note 7. For the third time, we’re getting reports of another OnePlus Nord 2 5G catching fire and exploding.
The third report was made by LetsGoDigital after the victim posted the incident on Twitter. The victim, Gaurav Gulati, is a lawyer and social activist who experienced injuries in the explosion. Apparently, he was at work when he felt something warm from his coat pocket. When the heat was getting unbearable, he took off his coat just before the explosion took place.
Gulati shared images of the incident and the toasted Nord 2. He shared that he bought the device last August 24th.
In the report, Gulati shared that he felt like “I’ve had my death certificate (the Nord 2) in my pocket. I am very happy that I am still alive.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a Nord 2 exploded. Another incident took place last month after two separate incidents reported of the device suddenly exploding. On both occasions, the device suddenly exploded without being used. They were also brand new units that were both purchased as a gift for a loved one.
OnePlus was able to negotiate with the second victim, who took down the photos of the toasted device. But LetsGoDigital was able to save copies of the photos. In that incident, OnePlus also released a statement regarding what happened:
“Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers. We reached out to the concerned user immediately after hearing about this incident and initiated a thorough internal investigation. The results indicate that the damage to this device was caused by an isolated incident involving external factors and not due to any manufacturing or product issue. However, we remain in close touch with this user and have offered our support to address their concerns and ensure their wellbeing.”
The smartphone manufacturer has not yet responded to the recent explosion. We will update the report when a new development takes place.
