A few weeks ago, Verizon customers started to complain about being automatically enrolled in the carrier’s Custom Experience data collection program. Today, Big Red has started to notify its subscribers that they were already opted-in by default. Verizon subscribers got the notification via email and text.
Verizon’s Custom Experience program collects data on subscribers’ activity on apps and on the web. This is so a more personalized experience can be given to them. But customers have the option to opt-out at any time. You can do this by going to the privacy settings page on the My Verizon site or app.
If you wish to continue being part of the data collection program, however, you will get more relevant product and service recommendations. The collected information will help Verizon come up with more offers that will likely be interesting to customers.
After confirming the program, Verizon explained that there are actually two versions: the Custom Experience program and the Custom Experience Plus. The former is the default enrollment that all subscribers are part of. The latter, on the other hand, requires customers to opt in manually. This collects more information, such as a customer’s location and his phone calls.
You can learn more about either program here.
