Earlier today, some of Verizon’s customers in Georgia and parts of Florida encountered a network outage. The issue, which caused disruptions to Verizon’s services, has since been resolved.
At first, many thought that the disruptions to calls, data, or messaging were caused by the holiday traffic. It is, after all, Valentine’s Day, and many are probably sending their greetings to their loved ones. But as reported by PhoneArena, the outage was not caused by holiday overload.
As reported, Verizon’s network problem started around 2PM and lasted until after evening. Some areas encountered the outage the most, such as Bulloch County, which encouraged residents to make 911 calls on their landlines instead.
In a statement sent to The Verge, Verizon’s spokesperson explained what happened:
“This afternoon there was a fiber issue that caused a network disruption for some customers in Georgia. Our engineers worked to identify the issue and service has since been restored.”
Service was restored around 6PM.
