Verizon is making an important enhancement to its Call Filter system. Soon, you’ll be able to see labels on unknown callers. So if you’re expecting a call from your doctor, you won’t have to worry about accidentally picking up a spam caller.
Between the months of May-June, Verizon says that its Call Filter system was able to identify 2.5 billion unwanted calls. They have also been able to block robocalls over 10 times that amount. This is, of course, thanks to their Call Filter, the STIR/SHAKEN system, and some other tools.
With today’s announcement, you’ll see a label on your phone whenever you receive an unknown call. So if it’s a health institution or public service, you will be notified as such via the label. This will allow you to decide whether to accept the call or not.
If you continue to receive spam calls on your Verizon phone, here are some things you should do:
Forward the spam text to Verizon at S-P-A-M (7726)
Use the free Call Filter app for reporting the number as a spam message
Report the message to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
The Call Filter option offered by Verizon is currently free to its unlimited 5G plans. If you wish to upgrade to the Premium Call Filter, you will need to pay $2.99/month for a single line or $7.99 for accounts with more than three lines.
