It looks like some Verizon subscribers have been dealing with an outage since this morning. Although the number of complaints have dropped, there are still several users who are dealing with an outage.
DownDetector revealed that the problems first started around 9:00 am EDT and peaked around 3:00 pm EDT. More than half of those complaints said that they had an issue with their mobile phones. 24% of the complaints were related to signal connectivity issues. There were also 19% of complaints of having a total blackout of service.
The areas with the most number of complaints come from Evansville, Indiana; Paducah, Kentucky, Owensboro, Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee; New York City, New York; and several others.
Responding to the concerns on social media, Verizon sent out a tweet:
"Fiber cuts in the Evansville area are causing a disruption in service for customers in and around the area. Our engineers are working with our third-party fiber provider to get those cuts fixed and service restored. We still do not have an estimated time."
But this is conflicting since one customer shared his conversation with a Verizon representative, who said that the outage was due to “a storm in Evansville” that took out a tower that “feeds a large portion of signal to most of western Kentucky, southern Indiana, and parts of western Tennessee.” Other carriers are said to be affected as well but there seems to be no complaints on DownDetector.
In an updated report, PhoneArena shared that the issue remains to be a problem in some markets. Verizon also responded to a tweet and promised that its technicians are “working as quickly as possible to restore service in your area.” Big Red has apologized for any inconvenience and thanked its customers for their patience.
