Google Fi is making several changes to improve the experience for its customers, including better call quality, clearer billing, and expanded free Wi-Fi access. The carrier is calling these updates "Feature Reveals" and plans to share new improvements regularly going forward.
According to Android Authority, the most notable change involves call quality. When you're talking to someone on an old phone or landline, Google Fi will now use artificial intelligence to automatically clean up background noise and make voices sound clearer. The feature turns on by itself during these calls, though you can disable it if you prefer not to use it.
Google Fi is also expanding its free Wi-Fi service to millions more locations across the country. The Wi-Fi Auto Connect Plus feature, which currently works on Pixel phones, will now be available at major airports including LAX, O'Hare, and JFK, plus shopping malls and retail stores. When it connects, you'll see a "W+" icon in your status bar, and the connection is encrypted for security.
If you use Google Fi's web interface to send messages from your computer or tablet, that's getting better too. The company added full support for RCS messaging, which means you can now send high-quality photos and videos instead of compressed versions.
The Google Fi app now includes AI-powered bill summaries that explain your charges in plain language. These summaries break down what you're paying for, highlight any changes from last month, and tell you how those changes might affect future bills.
Along with these updates, Google Fi is offering a promotion for new customers who bring their own phone: 50% off for 15 months on Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Standard plans.
