Honor is rolling out a new privacy feature called Virtual Permissions in version 160 software for its phones, giving users another way to deal with apps that ask for more access than they seem to need.
According to Honor’s official Weibo post (via GSMArena), the feature can feed apps blank data when they try to read sensitive information such as call records, instead of handing over the user’s real information. Honor says the idea is to help protect personal data while still letting people use apps that insist on certain permissions. Source
That could be useful for anyone who has run into an app that will not work unless it gets access to things that feel unrelated to its main purpose. Rather than forcing users to choose between giving up personal information or not using the app at all, Honor is positioning Virtual Permissions as a middle-ground option.
Honor also shared where users can find it once the feature is available: Settings > Privacy & Security > Virtual Permissions.
Based on Honor’s wording, the feature is meant to address a common frustration around app permissions in a way that is easy for regular users to understand. The company has not said more in that post about supported apps or a broader rollout, but the main pitch is clear: if an app asks for sensitive data, Honor wants to give users more control over what is actually shared.
