A few weeks ago, the U.S. Justice Department cleared the proposed merger between T-Mobile and Sprint. In response to this, Oregon has joined the crusade to block the merger from happening.
Earlier this week, Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced that she will be joining the antitrust suit filed by other state attorney generals. Oregon’s entry into the lawsuit marks itself as the 15th state to join the suit.
In her statement, Rosenblum shared that “It’s important that Oregon join other states in opposing the Sprint-T-Mobile merger. If left unchallenged, the current plan will result in reduced access to affordable wireless service in Oregon -- and higher places. Neither is acceptable.”
Prior to this week’s announcement, Texas joined the suit too. The lawsuit has since been filed in June by over a dozen states and the District of Columbia. Texas’ participation in the suit marks the second Republican Attorney General to be part of this cause.
With the support of Oregon, the suit has become stronger than before. And after winning the approval from the U.S. antitrust regulator, the suit needs all the help it can get to stop the merger from happening. After all, the deal is not allowed to close until the lawsuit filed by the state is resolved.
