According to a high ranking officer of Apple, the Apple Music streaming service will officially debut on June 30th of this year, together with iOS 8.4, the latest iteration of the iOS 8 mobile operating system, as well as the Beats 1 radio station.
This announcement was made via a blog post written by Ian Rogers, who just happens to a former chief executive officer of Beats and now currently serving as a senior director for Apple Music. As indicated in Rogers' blog post, iOS 8.4 will become live at 8 AM PT, which is a bit earlier than the customary 10 AM time of release. As for the Beats 1 radio station, it will go live one hour later, as reported by 9to5Mac.
Apple Music was unveiled by Apple earlier this month, alongside the announcement of its upcoming iOS 9 platform. And just as June ends, this new music streaming subscription service will finally be accessible to all music loving mobile users. Moreover, the music streaming field gets more crowded as Apple Music joins the ranks of Spotify, Pandora, Rdio, and Rhapsody, just to name a few, in trying to vie for listeners' ears and subscription fees.
As a whole, music streaming has been undergoing some dramatic changes lately, all indicating future growth in the coming years. As a matter of fact, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), a worldwide trade organization for the music business, revenues from music streaming subscription services has ballooned by 39 percent to $1.57 billion in 2014.
Signs clearly suggest that music streaming is on the rise, while digital downloads is on the decline. For instance, in 2014, download sales decreased by 8 percent, as reported by IFPI. And with sales of physical albums continuously dipping (it also declined 8 percent last year), music streaming is set to become the new dominant sector in the music business. It is true that digital downloads still make up over 50 percent of the global music sales, but as recent trends show, it may soon be surpassed by music streaming.
To be able to use Apple Music, mobile users will need to get iOS 8.4, hence the synchronized release of both together with the Beats 1 radio station. As for Beats 1, it is the new radio station soon to be released by Apple that will provide non-stop music for 24 hours, 7 days a week to global audiences. Apart from the music, Beats 1 will also feature shows and interviews with today's most celebrated musical artists.
