AT&T is jumping into the smart home security market with a new service that combines Google's smart home devices with round-the-clock professional monitoring. The service, called AT&T Connected Life, uses Google Nest security equipment monitored by Abode's security professionals.
According to AT&T's announcement, the company is now the only provider offering Google Home smart home security with professional monitoring nationwide. The service stands out because it keeps working even if your home loses power or your internet goes down, thanks to a backup connection through AT&T's wireless network.
Setting up the system doesn't require scheduling a technician visit. Customers can install everything themselves using the devices in their starter kit. AT&T is also working with Affirm to let buyers spread out payments over time, with rates ranging from 0-36% APR depending on eligibility.
The service includes Google Nest devices like security cameras and sensors that connect through your AT&T internet and wireless service. Abode handles the professional monitoring side, meaning trained security staff watch over your home 24/7. If something triggers an alert, they can respond accordingly.
Brian Brower, AT&T's vice president of New Product Innovation, said the launch reinforces the company's focus on customer safety. He emphasized that AT&T already connects modern homes and is now expanding into protecting them too.
The service requires internet service, equipment, and Wi-Fi, all sold separately. It's available across most of the country except Illinois and New Jersey. One catch: if the power goes out, you won't be able to livestream from your security cameras, though the system itself stays operational.
