A new study jointly conducted by AT&T and Ericsson shows that about 75 percent of today’s consumers consider connected car features as a significant factor in helping them decide which vehicle to buy next. Because of this, the second biggest wireless carrier in the United States is now ramping up its efforts in serving the needs of its subscribers who want more options when it comes to the latest connected car tech.
Starting this week, subscribers under AT&T’s Unlimited Plan can now add select connected cars or a ZTE Mobley vehicle Wi-Fi plug in device to their plans for $40 a month for unlimited data. Not only that, Unlimited Plan subscribers can also choose to get a gigabyte of data a month for $10 for each connected vehicle or ZTE Mobley. As always, AT&T’s connected car customers can expect to continue enjoying the option of a stand alone data plan or adding their vehicle to their Mobile Share Value Plan.
AT&T has also taken the opportunity to launch a new nationwide connected car online campaign dubbed “A Whole New Ride.” This marks the first time that the wireless carrier has kicked off a campaign that focuses on the advantages offered by having wireless connectivity in automobiles. In the campaign, the benefits of transforming one’s vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot is depicted through the eyes of a kid. The campaign is scheduled to run through July 5th of this year.
During the first quarter of 2016, AT&T claims it has over 8 million vehicles on its network. Furthermore, the wireless carrier reports that it connects over half of all new connected passenger cars in the US market. The highlights of AT&T’s connected car efforts from the past year include:
