It is not uncommon to find wireless carriers that also offer live TV services -- for instance, industry leader Verizon Wireless has its Go90 feature, while another wireless giant, AT&T, offers its DirecTV Now to customers. C Spire Wireless, the sixth biggest mobile operator in the United States, has decided to join in on the fun.
Through its new C Spire TV app based HD TV offering, the carrier is looking to offer a full range of TV channels one would expect to see in a regular cable TV subscription. Not many people may realize this but aside from being a mobile service provider, C Spire also offers home TV as well as traditional web connection services. And now with C Spire TV in the mix, the company could do well to leverage the current deals and business partnerships it has in providing channels and content.
Of course, it goes without saying that the mobile app for the C Spire TV service will be made available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire, and Roku, as well as on mobile devices. Moreover, the app will also come with a cloud DVR feature that will allow customers to record and then view programs either in the comfort of their home or while on the go by way of the C Spire mobile app. It is worth noting that AT&T’s DirecTV does not have this cloud DVR feature yet, which means that C Spire TV might just have the upper hand (Sling has one too, but it is limited).
Furthermore, C Spire Wireless is also looking to have its app based HD TV service integrated with Amazon’s Alexa enabled handsets, which means that customers are free to search for content and even play programs using only verbal commands. As explained by a spokesperson for C Spire, all of this is accomplished with the use of a back end server that seamlessly relays the user’s voice commands to the C Spire mobile app.
Some analysts agree that this latest move by C Spire Wireless will prove to be wise, especially considering how the competition has intensified as of late, in terms of offering package deals that deliver both mobile services and entertainment offerings. While C Spire can do well in initiating deployment of the C Spire TV service to its gigabit Internet customers based in the state of Mississippi in spring of this year, it still has a lot of things to do before it can truly challenge its rivals.
