Google is officially confirming the existence of Datally, which is basically a new app that helps users better track, manage, and ultimately save on mobile data. As of this writing, the app is already made available in the Google Play store, and should work in any Android powered mobile device with Android 5.0 Lollipop (or newer version) installed.
With the Datally mobile app, Android users can monitor their data usage every hour, every day, every week, or even every month. Moreover, the app is capable of offering tips with regards to optimizing one’s data. Datally also happens to come with a feature called Data Saver, which as its name suggests can shut down background data usage and monitor consumption in real time when activated. Lastly, the app will also notify users whenever there is a safe public Wi-Fi connection available.

According to Google, it had been conducting some testing in the Philippines during the past several months, and found that users were able to save as much as 30 percent of their data. During the trial stages, various app developers from Google’s own crew and from third parties were concerned about the effects of giving mobile users a means for limiting their handset’s data usage. But once they realized that consumers were okay with optimizing data usage by their favorite apps, the app developers have since welcomed Datally.
