It appears that T-Mobile has a secret prepaid smartphone plan that it is offering to new subscribers, but for some reason, the wireless carrier does not seem to be making a lot of noise about it. The plan costs $30 a month, and already comes with unlimited data, specifically a very generous 5 gigabytes of full LTE speed data, with any extra data throttled, plus 100 minutes of voice calls every month as well as unlimited text messaging.
Like any smartphone plan out there, there is always a caveat of some sorts. The same applies to this secret T-Mobile deal. The offer is only made available to subscribers who are buying a smartphone from Walmart, or those activating their handset on T-Mobile.com. In other words, in order to avail of the offer, customers will need to buy either a new T-Mobile mobile device or SIM card. Also, the $30 offer comes with a 30 day expiry, which means that customers will have to renew every month.
By any measure, whether there is any throttling involved and accounting for caveats, 5 gigabytes of full LTE speed data is a pretty amazing offer. The next best value prepaid deal from T-Mobile is its $40 a month Simply Prepaid plan, which comes with unlimited voice calls and text messaging, but only a gigabyte of full speed data every month, slower unlimited data once users go beyond the first gigabyte. If one wants 5 gigabytes on a Simply Prepaid plan, he will have to fork $60 a month. With the secret prepaid plan, you can enjoy the same amount of gigabytes for just have the price.
But majority of subscribers of the third biggest wireless carrier in the United States may not even have the slightest idea that the offer exists. One would think that a deal as awesome as this would have been taken advantage of already. Still, it is to be considered that generally all the major wireless carriers in the US have been mainly concentrating on their respective postpaid mobile services. The result is that prepaid wireless services often do not get pushed into the limelight. Even a wireless carrier as aggressive as T-Mobile (marketing and promotions wise) is not immune to this. As a matter of fact, when one visits T-Mobile’s website, there is almost no mention of anything prepaid on the home page -- you would have to actually search for prepaid in order to get information about the wireless carrier’s prepaid plans.
As for T-Mobile’s $30 a month prepaid plan, you can learn more about the deal by heading to the Other Prepaid Plans page. It is interesting to note that in the wireless carrier’s main page for prepaid plans, the $30 offer is not even promoted. Still, interested customers can learn more about the deal by clicking Individual Monthly Plans, then scrolling down to Limited Plans and then clicking Shop Other Options.
