Essential Products, the startup company built by Android founder Andy Rubin, is making a beta version of Google’s Android 8.0 Oreo (the newest version of the most widely used mobile operating system in the planet) available by way of its developer portal. Sure, this particular Android version is still in beta, but it is generally accessible to anybody who wants to give the Android Oreo experience a try, even if it is not quite the finished version yet.
About a couple of months ago, Essential Products had stated that it would deliver an Oreo update after two months. True enough, the company has managed to do just that. Google had first introduced Android 8.0 Oreo back in August earlier this year. As expected, the first mobile devices to get updated to Android Oreo were the tech giant’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Then a few days ago, two of Samsung’s flagship offerings this year, namely the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, also got updated. With this latest piece of news, it appears that the Essential Phone would now join this rather exclusive club.
There is plenty of reason to be excited about the coming of Android 8.0 Oreo. Chief among them are the new features, which include badge notification alerts for individual mobile apps, a settings menu that sports a new look and feel, and loads of enhancements that should help facilitate improved processing speed, better quality of performance, and even more efficient battery life.
Users who can not wait to experience those can have their chance by acquiring the beta version. Of course, because the version offered by Essential is still in beta, it may not completely represent the full capabilities of Android 8.0 Oreo. But what it does is give Android mobile users a taste of what is to come. They should be aware though that they will need to sign up for the beta builds, and then get the update as a download to sideload to their handset. Along the way, they will have to load the newest Android Debug Bridge (ADB) tool, and deal with some fairly technical stuff.
