Yup, Samsung’s upcoming stylus compatible phablet offering, the Galaxy Note 9, will be formally introduced on August 9th later this year, more than a month from now. It was nearly four weeks ago when reports had surfaced saying that the South Korean tech giant was planning to unveil its newest addition to its impressive Galaxy Note lineup of devices on August 9, after there were reports in March that the Galaxy Note 9 was launching in July instead of the customary August schedule. But the world’s biggest seller of smartphone devices has since sent out invitations for a major event happening in New York City, and almost certainly, the Galaxy Note 9 will be revealed for the first time during this event.
The first ever Galaxy Note model was featured during the 2011 edition of the IFA Berlin (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) trade show. The next few years would see the phone maker hold its own event, as opposed to showcasing its new products first at popular annual tech events. Overall, the company has remained pretty consistent with debuting a new Galaxy Note handset on either an August or September timeframe.
As for this year’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9, the device was generally expected by many to be arriving some time within the second half of the year. Earlier this week, the model was reported to have passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Just a few days ago, a leak suggested that the series’ iconic S Pen stylus will be getting an update.
The Galaxy Note lineup is differentiated from Samsung’s other flagship series, the Galaxy S, by virtue of its S Pen stylus. But one can argue that while the stylus compatibility is one of the most obvious attributes of the Note brand, the South Korean mobile manufacturer seems to be focusing its improvements more on other features (such as delivering better camera specifications and enhanced display screen) than on pushing the envelope when it comes to its S Pen technology.
This might change this year -- the official invitation after all shows a close up of the button on an S Pen stylus. For Galaxy Note users who actually are regular users of the stylus, this should generate some added excitement. Of course, Samsung will also make sure to introduce other enhancements in other areas -- based on numerous rumors so far, the Galaxy Note 9 will likely sport a redesigned Bixby virtual assistant, and probably tweaks to the display screen and processing prowess (thanks to Qualcomm’s mighty Snapdragon 845).
