It was more than a couple of months ago when reports had surfaced saying that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9 was launching some time in July of this year. At that time, The Investor had stated that the South Korean tech giant’s second 2018 flagship offering (after the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus, which were officially announced last February) would be unveiled about a month earlier than the usual August debut.
But according to Bloomberg, it appears that the number one seller of smartphone devices in the world may be looking to formally introduce the Galaxy Note 9 in August after all (specifically on August 9th later this year in the city of New York).
In any given year, Samsung has sort of a routine -- a few months after impressing the rest of the world with the newest additions to its Galaxy S high end devices, it would then present another stylus compatible handset that takes some of the best features of the just released Galaxy S flagships and adds some improvements of its own. This strategy has worked fine for Samsung for several years now (well, except for that one unfortunate year).
Now for the Galaxy Note 9 -- not much is known yet about the phablet. But Samsung fans and mobile tech enthusiasts could reasonably expect the handset to feature enhanced camera specifications and a mightier chip set. Design wise, the upcoming release should take after last year’s Galaxy Note 8, which would not be a bad decision by any measure.
Already the industry leader, Samsung is in a good position to continue its dominance in the worldwide smartphone market. According to information recently presented by IDC, the South Korean phone maker had enjoyed a commanding 23 percent market share during the first three months of this year, while its closest rival, Apple, managed a 16 percent showing.
While it is true that much of Samsung’s sustained success can be attributed to its Galaxy S series of smartphones, the Galaxy Note lineup also plays a big part in keeping the momentum going, especially in the later part of the year when basically all players in the industry are offering their best bets heading into the busy holiday shopping season.
Many also consider the company’s Galaxy Note devices as one of the biggest contributors in getting consumers to start purchasing large screen smartphones in recent years. Pretty much every major phone maker in the world right now is offering a phablet flagship. Even Apple is joining in on the fun -- the tech giant is expected to release a gargantuan 6.5 inch iPhone model later this year.
