According to an exclusive report published by SamMobile, it appears that a Galaxy S8 Active model (model number SM-G892A, code named as “Cruiser”) is heading soon to AT&T’s store shelves. For those not familiar with “Active” editions, they are basically special variants of flagship smartphone offerings that have been integrated with more features, especially those meant to cater to mobile users with active lifestyles (hence the name). In most cases, the additional features usually revolve around more protection against damages, or sometimes better water proofing capabilities.
Not much is known about this upcoming Galaxy S8 Active yet, but based on past Active variants of previous Galaxy S devices, it is likely that the Cruiser will come with a bigger battery, presumably so that active users will not need to recharge the handset often, or at least as compared to the regular Galaxy S8 models. As for the looks, Active models are almost always built to be rugged specimens. This should be interesting because much has been written about the sleekness and stylishness of the Galaxy S8, even going as far as getting rid of the home button. Will the Galaxy S8 Active variant keep to the home button-less design, or sacrifice sleekness for ruggedness?
Like past Active editions, the Galaxy S8 Active will likely be made exclusively available at AT&T. It goes without saying that some of Samsung’s fans will be wanting to have Active devices also offered at other major wireless carriers. It remains to be seen if the South Korean tech giant will break that habit or stick with the standard protocol.
Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are scheduled to officially launch this coming April 21st, and there is no doubt, that consumers and sellers alike are getting excited in the days leading to that date. Less than a week ago, it was reported that buyers who preordered the Galaxy S8 from T-Mobile might have their units shipped to them a couple of days earlier than expected. The third biggest wireless carrier in the United States has apparently already started notifying its customers via text message that the latest Galaxy S models will be shipping starting on April 19th.
Amidst the excitement, however, are some minor snags. For instance, there was talk that the English language edition of Bixby, Samsung’s new virtual assistant, will not be made available on Galaxy S8 units shipping on April 21st. The company has since promised that its artificial intelligence driven feature will be deployed some time in spring of this year.
