The Pixel C tablet that Google unveiled last year (together with the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P) is kind of hard to top. But it appears that Huawei might be left with no other choice but to try and live up to that device as it teams up with Google in building a new tablet. That is if the rumors of Huawei’s tablet collaboration with the tech giant is true.
According to frequent leaker Evan Blass (more popularly known as @evleaks), Google’s next tablet is said to feature China based Huawei as the manufacturing partner. Blass also noted that the tablet will be fitted with a 7 inch display screen and comes with 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM). There may be some truth to the rumors. Huawei after all recently trademarked the name “Huawei 7P.” The name could be used for the new tablet offering, which Blass believes will be slated for release within this year.
It is worth noting that Blass has done a fine job of leaking mobile related information that turned out to be true. He did after all accurately leaked details of recent high profile releases such as Samsung’s most current phablet offering, the Galaxy Note 7. Last year, he also correctly forecasted the Nexus 6P, the recent Nexus device that Huawei built in collaboration with Google.
This recent development comes as reports have surfaced that Google may have plans of announcing new Pixel branded mobile devices in October later this year. The talk is that on an upcoming media event that the tech giant has scheduled this coming October 4th, there will be some new official announcements regarding Google’s newest hardware offerings, including new phones carrying the Pixel brand, plus a 4K Chromecast.
With regards to the Pixel phones, they will reportedly be named the Pixel and the Pixel XL. This actually was not a complete surprise. Back in June earlier this year, Google was reported to be planning to debut a smartphone that will not carry the familiar Google Nexus branding. The rumors also indicated that the device will debut before the end of this year. Interestingly, Google has officially confirmed that it is putting its Project Ara on hold, in order to purportedly concentrate on releasing its new Pixel phones.
Will a Pixel branded tablet built by Huawei be joining these rumored upcoming Pixel phones? We will all find out less than a month from now.
