Nothing much actually. But considering that the HTC One M8 smartphone was a pretty cool device already, that’s perfectly alright.
HTC recently debuted its latest flagship device, the HTC One M9, during the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain. And while Samsung decided to experiment with new things with the introduction of its flagship devices (the Galaxy S6 and its curvy variant the Galaxy S6 Edge), the Taiwanese phone maker has opted to stick with what has made its products a hit -- consistency in the quality of its flagship’s features.
This does not mean however that the One M9 is just a complete carbon copy of the One M8. More evolutionary than revolutionary, the newest flagship device of HTC does come with some nifty upgrades, which could still urge HTC fans to grab this latest offering anyway.
As for the differences between the One M9 and One M8 models, they are mostly limited to the power/wake button and the camera. With the One M9, the power/wake button has been transferred to the right side of the device. As for its camera, the one on its rear side now only possesses a single lens focusing light on a new 20-megapixel sensors that is capable of shooting videos in 4000 resolution.
And now for the upgrades. The newest version now has the 64-bit capable Snapdragon 810 processor, the latest from Qualcomm, which many consider to be the best that the chip maker has to offer when it comes to smartphone processors. Its predecessor featured the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.
The camera on the front side also gets upgraded. Selfie addicts will be delighted to know that the front camera now utilizes HTC’s light-optimizing Ultrapixel technology, which means better self-portraits for One M9 users.
Power consumption wise, the One M9 can support turbo charging, that is if users get the right charger, which recharges up the battery up to 40 percent quicker.
Those who pay great attention to detail may find the rear’s metallic surface to be easier on the grip. Also, the body of the smartphone has a slightly less curvy design, which could be a boon to some users, or a non-factor for others.
The HTC One M9 does come with Android 5.0 Lollipop and a few tweaks on the software and apps. The HTC Connect app is particularly useful for music lovers because it can generate a list of every wireless speaker that the smartphone can beam music to.
What features have been retained? Well, users can expect the same 5-inch display screen and the same 1920 by 1080 resolution. Internal storage remains in the 32/64 gigabyte range, although when it comes to random access memory (RAM), the One M9’s has been bumped up to 3 gigabytes (One M8’s was only 2 gigabytes).
All in all, the One M9 is definitely a better smartphone that the previous model. It has faster processing capabilities, more RAM, and an upgraded camera. For those looking to buy their first HTC device, the One M9 should make for an excellent choice.
