Huawei recently held an exclusive event at the Grand Palais in the city of Paris in France this week, where the third biggest phone maker in the world (next to industry leaders Samsung and Apple) took the opportunity to formally announce its latest flagship device offerings -- the Huawei P20 and the Huawei P20 Pro.
As expected, the new flagship phablets offer some impressive high end specifications, but Huawei is eager to highlight the phones’ advanced camera system, which continues to take full advantage the Chinese tech giant’s partnership with Leica, the German company known for developing top quality cameras.
Indeed, the P20 boasts a twin camera set up, while its P20 Pro sibling offers a triple camera treat, with the image capturing capabilities of both models generously complemented with artificial intelligence features, including Master AI (AI assisted pro photography) and Huawei AIS (AI image stabilization).
Like before, Huawei is not stinting with the aesthetics -- rendering both P20 versions in new color options such as Pink Gold and Twilight (in addition to the expected Black and Midnight Blue), either fitting nicely with the glass rear and super slim bezel design (with rounded edges).
Other notable specs of the Huawei P20 and the Huawei P20 Pro phablets include the Kirin 970 chip set, which comes with its own built in neural processing unit (NPU), 4 gigabytes of RAM (6 gigabytes for the P20 Pro), at least 128 gigabytes of onboard storage, powerful batteries (3,400 mAh and 4,000 mAh, respectively), and Google’s Android Oreo 8.1 mobile operating system.
Apart from officially unveiling its new P20 series of phablets, Huawei also introduced the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS. This new Porsche inspired device is sort of a continuation of the Porsche Design Mate 10 that the Chinese phone brand released more than a couple of months ago.
The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS delivers a trio of Leica cameras, consisting of a jaw dropping 40 megapixel RGB lens, a 20 megapixel monochrome sensor, and an 8 megapixel telephoto lens. With these camera specs, the device can lay claim to having the highest total pixel count on any handset out in the market. For good measure, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS also has an in-screen fingerprint reader, which can be activated just by floating one’s finger over the display. The rear mounted fingerprint scanner can also be used for unlocking the device. Those looking to get their hands on the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS can either purchase it in black or in red.
