Apple has just released iOS 8.4 beta, which is actually the third for this iOS software update. But what can iOS users expect from this latest installment? Well, for starters, it offers an overhauled Music app, specifically bringing changes to both the user interface and functionality aspects of the playback app of Apple's mobile operating system.
Many iOS die hard fans may view this move by the tech giant as a preparation of some sort for the potential launch of a new and improved iTunes music streaming service, which some industry watchers are expecting to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference happening in early June of this year. The said launching of an iTunes music streaming service is said to likely occur on June 8th, the date in which the conference officially kicks off and wherein Apple will probably deliver a keynote.
If Apple ever does announce a new iTunes music streaming service a few weeks from now, it will undoubtedly be contending with other established music streaming service providers, notably Spotify. There were certainly signs that the company was looking to introduce a new service that is related to music, and some may say that it is overdue. Apple, after all, had bought Beats Music a year ago and releasing a new music streaming service offering seems like the next logical step. According to Re/code, the new service will reportedly use free samples as well as a trial period (ranging from a month to three months) in order to promote its paid music streaming subscription service.
Going back to the revamped Music app that is featured in the iOS 8.4 beta 3 release -- it actually makes no specific mention of any music streaming of any kind. What it does offer is a new look and feel, nicely combined with a new mini-player, loads of playlist features, and quicker, improved access to iTunes Radio.
At this point, it appears that the release of the iOS 8.4 beta 3 has more to do with refining and debugging existing issues with the Music app. But there is no doubt that some music loving iOS users can not help thinking that these enhancements are a prelude to the future new music streaming services ultimately being contained within the iOS Music app, along with iTunes Radio and local libraries.
iOS 8.3 beta 3 (build 12H4098c) is made available as an over the air download and via the iOS Developer Center. Apple has also rolled out Xcode 6.4 beta 3 for developers.
