Moto 360 became one of the best-selling Android Wear devices when it first came out in September last year. The smartwatch was a hit with its impressive specifications and the fact that it actually looks and feels like a traditional watch. These attributes aside, some customers may have been left wondering if Motorola could have done better if they actually included the Moto 360 in Moto Maker. It would have been extra cool if buyers could also personalize their Moto 360s via Motorola's hardware design customization tool.
Well, it appears that Motorola has given in. The company is now officially making the Moto 360 a part of Moto Maker. Just as easily as they can with most Motorola handsets, customers can now build their own personalized version of their Motorola smartwatch.
Customization options for the Moto 360 include choices between three different finishes, nine different styles for the bands, and various pre-installed options for watch faces. With regards to the finishes, customers can choose between light metal finish, dark metal finish, or rose gold finish. For the band styles, buyers can choose from three different kinds of leather straps or pick from three separate types of metal link bracelets, which come in various color options. As for the watch face options, technically these are software features, but whatever watch face design you choose, it will be so when you get the Moto 360 you ordered.
The timing of Moto 360's inclusion in Moto Maker may be a bit convenient, especially when you consider that the upcoming Apple Watch just made a splash at Apple's recently concluded Spring Forward event. Regardless, it is definitely good news to customers, especially for fans of the Moto 360. If anything else, it should help generate more attention not only for the Moto 360, but also for smartwatches in general, that is if the Apple Watch has not done that already.
Speaking of the Apple Watch, Moto 360's customization options should compete well with Apple's offering, which also comes in three variants, all with different options for colors and band styles. And it looks like Motorola is the only smartwatch maker that is daring to challenge the Apple Watch in terms of providing plenty of options for its buyers. If it can't beat Apple, at least it is ahead of the Android Wear pack. Unless of course, other smartwatch makers like Samsung and LG also decide to offer more customization options for their own wearable devices.
