It is the Motorola fans' turn to get excited. Motorola has finally announced the preorder details for its Moto X smartphone, the company's flagship device that is meant to contend with Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy S5.
Via the Motorola news blog, the phone maker confirmed the pre-order details on Sunday, about a week after the Moto X officially debuted.
While this is good news for those awaiting the Moto X's release in stores, there is however a catch -- versions of the smartphone offered by other carriers may not be available yet. For instance, consumers can order the new Moto X for the carrier AT&T starting on Tuesday, September 16 at 11 AM Central Time; but for other carriers like Verizon or T-Mobile, buyers will have to wait for who knows when.
This is obviously a blow for some Motorola fans, especially those under carriers not named AT&T. In an effort to appease these people, Motorola is releasing the new Moto X Pure Edition. This version will be unlocked and will come with an unlocked bootloader. This means that buyers of this version will be able to use it on either AT&T or T-Mobile without having to commit to a two-year plan.
The Moto X Pure Edition will cost customers $499.00. As for AT&T's Moto X offering, buyers will have to shell out $99.00 and sign up for a two-year contract.
Apart from releasing preorder details for the Moto X, Motorola has also provided information regarding its other products, namely the Moto Hint and the Motorola Turbo Charger.
The Moto Hint is Motorola's latest wireless headset offering. Bluetooth-enabled, the Moto Hint features easy-to-use voice controls that allow users to interact with their Motorola handset's music player. The Moto Hint will be made available on Tuesday, September 16.
As for the Motorola Turbo Charger, it will also be available on the same date. Priced at $34.99, the Turbo Charger can charge the Moto X smartphone in 15 minutes. Motorola is billing the charger as its fastest ever.
Upon the release of its first version last year, the Moto X smartphone had the distinction of being one of the mass market flagship devices that can be readily customized. The new Moto X version released this year follows the same mold. Buyers can choose from different color options and various materials for the phone's back cover. Motorola has stated that those who pre-order will be able to customize their Moto X devices via Moto Maker. However, it is not clear at this point how much customization will be possible.
Customizations aside, the new Moto X should impress its fans and those who own it for the first time. It features a 5.2-inch AMOLED display, sports a 13-megapixel rear camera, and boasts a 2.5 GigaHertz Snapdragon 801 processor, which is definitely a significant improvement from its predecessor. Now that the preorder period has commenced, users should be able to experience for the phone's features soon.
