Google officially unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of the Android mobile operating system, just last week. Android fans are no doubt excited to experience the newest iteration of the world's most popular smartphone OS. But which devices exactly are getting the latest Android system? For now, here is what we know.
Google's Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are the first devices to have the Android 5.0 Lollipop. In the coming weeks, the latest Android system will also be made available for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and Google Play edition devices.
Samsung
You would think Samsung would be the first in line, given how many people are using Samsung devices today. Interestingly, the South Korean phone maker has not issued any official word yet. However, we can reasonably expect that the Galaxy Note 4 will be updated soon enough (within a couple of months or so), as well as the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Alpha, and the Galaxy Note 3.
HTC
HTC has stated that the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7) devices will be updated within 90 days, while other HTC One and select devices will follow shortly. This means that the HTC Desire Eye, the HTC One Mini 2, and the HTC One Max could be updated early next year.
Huawei
The Chinese phone maker has been slow to update its Android devices, so we are guessing that Huawei owners will have to exercise a bit of patience before they can get Android 5.0 Lollipop.
LG
Like Samsung, LG has not announced any Android updates yet. But we fully expect the LG G3, LG G2, LG G2 Mini, and LG G3 Beat devices to be updated starting next year.
Motorola
As for Motorola, the phone maker has confirmed that the first-gen and second-gen Moto X, the Moto G, the Moto G 4G, and the Moto E will be get Android 5.0 Lollipop updates soon (no release dates yet). Sure to follow are the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini devices.
Nvidia
While Nvidia has not stated any update release date yet, it is still likely that they will be shifting to Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime soon, especially for the Nvidia Shield devices.
OnePlus
The few who own the OnePlus One device can expect to have their devices updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in three months, per a OnePlus staff member.
Sony
Fans of the Xperia smartphones will be delighted to know that Sony is bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to the every Xperia Z handset. This means that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will be updated soon, likely in early 2015.
ZTE
It is kind of a 50/50 for ZTE phones -- either they will get updated or they will not. Owners will have to wait and see.
