As revealed in Skype's blog, Skype 2.22 is now available for the mobile operating systems Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8. This means that for the first time, location sharing can now be used in Skype.
Having location sharing in your Skype is a handy and fun thing to have. It can bring a whole new dimension to chatting with family and friends, especially when you are looking for a convenient way of telling your chat contacts where to meet up. One simply has to send a Bing map of his or her current location, and the recipient should be able to get one's exact coordinates.
The full list of new features in Skype 2.22 for Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 includes Location Sharing, Save Picture, and Notification Controls for Individual Conversations.
To use the Location Sharing features, users need only click the "+" icon while in a chat conversation, and then select "Share Location" to send your whereabouts to all participants of the conversation.
As its name implies, the Save Picture features allows users to save images. They can tap on the photo to increase its size, or go ahead to the menu options and select the "Save Photo" option.
Regarding the Notification Controls for Individual Conversations, users can access it by tapping for more options and then selecting "Notifications". Depending on their preferences, they can activate or deactivate notifications for specific conversations, which means that users can choose which incoming messages they want to be notified about.
Location sharing in a smartphone is definitely nothing new. But by integrating it with a chat platform, it could be a potentially fun, not to mention useful way of communicating with your friends. If anything else, it can facilitate easier meetups, especially for users who are not too fond of dictating directions over the phone.
