Sprint revealed today that it will be lowering the prices of some of its shared data plans later this week. The carrier has been busy lately making changes to the pricing structure of its plans, dropping charges and offering discounts here and there to the delight of its customers.
In this latest development, Sprint is dropping the monthly data access fees for its $80 and $90 Family Share plans to just $15 each month for every line of service. That's a discount of up to $25 for each smartphone connected to the plan. The new prices will take effect beginning November 14th.
Before this price overhaul, customers would need to pay either a monthly charge of $25 for devices purchased via Sprint's Easy Pay financing option (or purchased outright), or $40 for handsets that are subsidized on a two-year contract.
Both the $80 and $90 Family Share plans offer unlimited calls and text messaging as well as 12 gigabytes or 16 gigabytes of monthly shared data respectively. If you are a member of a family or group of four, you can enjoy unlimited calls, text messaging, and 12 gigabytes of data for only $140 each month under the adjusted Family Share plan.
Sprint's revamped Family Share offer is definitely not bad. To compare, having 10 gigabytes of shared data between four lines of service on a Verizon Wireless More Everything plan will cost you a total of $240 each month.
Sprint's new offer should compete well with T-Mobile's Simple Choice Family plans. The latter offers 4 lines of service with unlimited calls, text messaging, and data with 3 gigabytes of LTE data for each line for a monthly fee of $140. The lowered monthly data access fees will be good until January 15th of next year.
Those who want to get more data on a monthly basis can check out Sprint's $100 monthly Family Share Pack offer (for 4 lines of service), which they can still avail for a few more days.
The promo offer already includes unlimited calls, text messaging, and 20 gigabytes of shared data, with monthly data access charges completely waived until January 2016. But you might need to make haste -- the $100 monthly Family Share Pack offer will only be good until November 15th of this year.
