About a couple of months from now, owners of mobile devices powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system will finally be able to experience Super Mario Run on their smartphones and tablet devices. According to tweets by Nintendo Japan and Nintendo USA, the best selling game will be made available to Android handsets starting on March of this year.
This piece of news should get Android users excited, especially those who grew up playing one of the most beloved video games of all time. Owners of Android devices had to wait for three months, after the game (the first ever by Nintendo that is intended for mobile devices) was released only to Apple made devices back in December of last year. Needless to say, Super Mario Run quickly became a big hit. In its first four days, the mobile game managed to register 40 million downloads, in the process becoming the fastest selling mobile game ever in the history of Apple’s App Store.
Like its classic version, Super Mario Run has the same basic game structure. Players have to let the world’s most popular plumber run through a wide range of levels, while at the same time, acquire as many coins and power ups as they can. Speaking of levels, the first three can be accessed free of charge by mobile users. But for those who want to go beyond the first three levels, they will have to pay $10 in order to unlock all the levels of the game.
Also recently this week, Nintendo took the opportunity to reveal that its next mobile game title, Fire Emblem: Heroes, will be making its debut at the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store on February 2nd. For those expecting another Super Mario Run type of game, they should know that Fire Emblem: Heroes is more of a strategic role playing game wherein two kingdoms battle each other.
Despite the remarkable success accomplished by Super Mario Run sales wise, it has received some criticism from customers, especially those not too enthusiastic with the fact that they will have to pay ten bucks in order to be able to play the remaining levels of the game. A report from Slice Intelligence published last month had stated that even though the game was able to capture a comfortable 30 percent share in all mobile game spending on all iOS powered devices, the buyer population of the app is actually already starting to decrease.
