T-Mobile recently launched Un-carrier 7.0 Wi-Fi Un-leashed, and in the process, made announcements that promise to deliver cellular network coverage that has never been matched before.
Wi-Fi calling and texting is being adopted by every big smartphone manufacturer nowadays, and T-Mobile has had a hand in that. Now with Wi-Fi Unleashed, T-Mobile revealed its plan to include Wi-Fi calling and texting for all customers under Simple Choice plans, on every device it sells. This means that essentially all new phones offered by T-Mobile from here on will have Wi-Fi calling and texting capabilities. And even if customers do not currently own any Wi-Fi enabled device, they will be able to get one via the Wi-Fi Un-leashed offer.
Moreover, T-Mobile is opening an enrollment window in JUMP! exclusively so that customers can upgrade to a new Wi-Fi enabled smartphone at the soonest possible time (JUMP! is the carrier's upgrade program).
Through Wi-Fi Un-leashed, T-Mobile is expanding its coverage to area previously unreachable, and the carrier is making it very simple for its customers to use the network. Customers need not install any app or establish new user IDs, they just need to use their smartphones.
Furthermore, T-Mobile is rolling its new-generation Wi-Fi, which promises high-quality HD voice, faster call setup times, minimized dropped calls, and clean and clear voice coverage between the carrier's Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network and Wi-Fi with compatible devices.
As for those based in other countries, they can make free Wi-Fi calls to the United States, using only their T-Mobile numbers, provided they have Wi-Fi access.
The carrier also unveiled the T-Mobile Personal CellSpot. This is a new device that allows users to make use of the capabilities of a personal T-Mobile in their own homes. Beginning September 17, Simple Choice customers with broadband connections and a Wi-Fi enabled smartphone can get a T-Mobile Personal CellSpot entirely free of charge with a $25.00 refundable deposit.
Lastly, T-Mobile also extended Wi-Fi Un-leashed to the skies. By partnering with Gogo, a leading in-flight connectivity service provider, the carrier can now allow its customers to send and receive unlimited texts and even visual voicemail. Currently, more than 75 percent of all domestic flights are Gogo-equipped, expanding T-Mobile's coverage even more.
This new service is basically free of charge to all T-mobile customers. On September 17 onwards, customers just need to activate Gogo in-flight texting in their phones, and they can already start texting as long as the flight is Gogo-equipped.
