A year and three months after launching Jump! On Demand, the third biggest wireless carrier in America has apparently decided to quietly end the program. According to a report published by PhoneArena, staff from one of T-Mobile’s retail outlets has revealed that the program is no longer made available as an option for new customers, or for current subscribers looking to get additional lines of service to their account.
So what happens to existing subscribers who bought their handset via Jump! On Demand? What will likely happen is that they will stay grandfathered in to the program, provided that they remain subscribed to T-Mobile’s network. But for new customers, especially those with plans to take full advantage of what the Jump! On Demand program can offer, it appears that they can no longer do so.
T-Mobile had introduced its Jump! On Demand program back in June of last year as a follow up to its original Jump! early upgrade option. The program gave subscribers the option of upgrading their mobile device up to three times in a single year, with absolutely zero minimum wait time. Customers can choose to get a handset via the Jump! On Demand program, and then pay off their phone in installments over the next year and a half, instead of paying the device’s full price upfront. Also, subscribers are free to hand back their device in exchange for a new phone at any time (as long as the device is still in good working condition), instead of waiting to upgrade until they have repaid a certain percentage of their handset.
But wait -- so what happens to the original Jump! early upgrade scheme? This option is still made available in T-Mobile retail stores to all subscribers, but it seems there have been a few changes. For example, the previous $10 a month fee has now been changed to either $9 a month or $12 a month, depending on the device selected by the customer. In the original Jump! set up, customers can upgrade once 50 percent of their handset has been repaid, but they had to pay an additional $10 a month (the one mentioned in the preceding sentence) on top of the cost of their plan and device payment. For those who are still considering signing up with the original Jump! early upgrade plan, they can do so within fourteen days of either upgrading their handset, getting an additional line of service, or subscribing to a T-Mobile wireless service.
