AT&T customers ordering new iPhones are facing a frustrating problem—their expensive devices are disappearing before they even get them. Instead of unboxing the latest iPhone, some customers are opening packages that have clearly been tampered with and finding nothing inside.
A recent case involved a Reddit user who ordered a new iPhone and noticed something wrong when the delivery driver handed over the box. The driver claimed the scanner was still in the truck, but the customer immediately saw that the package looked like it had been opened. When they refused to sign for what appeared to be an empty box, their suspicions were confirmed—the phone was gone.
According to PhoneArena, after contacting AT&T, the customer got the original order canceled and marked as lost or stolen, with a replacement order placed. However, the old device still showed as pending delivery in their account, leaving confusion about whether everything was properly resolved.
This isn't happening just once. Multiple AT&T customers on Reddit have reported similar experiences. One person said they were targeted twice by FedEx, losing four iPhones total. In the first incident, two phones arrived in empty boxes that were falsely marked as delivered with a signature. When they tried again with a different address, the package was again marked as delivered even though no driver was ever seen. Four days later, the phones mysteriously appeared on the doorstep late at night—possibly because the driver got worried about getting caught.
The pattern suggests delivery drivers may be stealing the phones during transit. Even with signature requirements, the thefts are happening, leaving customers scrambling to work with AT&T and the shipping carriers to get replacements. If you're expecting an iPhone delivery through AT&T, experts recommend being present for the delivery, checking the package carefully before signing, and immediately reporting any tampering to both AT&T and the carrier.
