After several months of announcements, AT&T has already initiated its 3G network shutdown. The wireless provider released a document with the phones it already tested and approved after the shutdown. But as reported by BestMVNO, there are some customers who are experiencing problems with their network.
In particular, the report shared the frustrations of a Red Pocket Mobile customer. This MVNO operates on all wireless networks, but this customer is using a plan under AT&T’s networks.
According to the report, the customer is using a Samsung Galaxy S9+. And on AT&T’s document, this is something that is on the approved list. But then again, the customer had a problem with VoLTE or WiFi calling on his device. These two features are something that are necessary for a device to continue operating after AT&T’s 3G shutdown.
The report also detailed the experience of other Red Pocket Mobile customers who shared their frustrations on Reddit. And like the first customer, they have had trouble getting in touch with customer support of the MVNO. Red Pocket, however, responded to the Reddit post and instructed them to reach out to them via email.
And it’s not just Red Pocket Mobile customers who are having trouble with their device that’s supposed to work after the 3G shutdown. There are other AT&T-based MVNOs who have shared their grievances with the network. The list includes H2O Wireless, Straight Talk, Consumer Cellular, and Airvoice.
Considering this network shutdown is something that AT&T has been preparing for quite some time now, this is simply unacceptable. It surely doesn’t help that there is a long wait time to get in touch with customer support. Hopefully, AT&T acts quick and fixes the problem.
