Earlier today, Boost Mobile unveiled its own Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program to qualified customers. Under the program, eligible customers can get access to high-speed mobile internet for free via two connectivity options: a mobile phone or a mobile hotspot option.
The EBB is a program designed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to alleviate the conditions of families who are unable to afford internet service during the ongoing health crisis. The other carriers and internet providers in the country have already rolled out their own EBB programs. With Boost Mobile’s announcement today, qualified families can stay connected during this difficult time.
As mentioned, Boost Mobile has two options in store for qualified candidates. These options include the following:
Mobile phone option: Get a plan with unlimited talk, text, and 35GB/month of free data
Mobile hotspot option: Purchase a mobile hotspot device at $25 and get 35GB/month of high-speed broadband. The device can connect up to 8 devices at the same time.
If you would like to take part in Boost Mobile’s EBB program, you will need to meet one of these eligibility requirements:
Has an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline;
Approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year;
Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
Experienced a substantial loss of income due to job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020, and the household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers; or
Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income or COVID-19 program.
If you meet at least one of the criteria, you may be eligible for the EBB program. You can learn more information about this program on Boost Mobile’s website or visit a Boost store so you can apply for the program.
