Good news for the residents of the state of California! Google Wallet now supports digital IDs. With this feature, residents can have a convenient and secure way of going through TSA checkpoints.
To take advantage of this feature, all you need to do is setup your Google Wallet to include your ID. You can do this by following these steps:
Open Google Wallet
Choose Add to Wallet
Tap on ID card
Tap on California and scan the front and back of your ID
You will also need to shoot a short video, which helps authenticate your identity.
Once completed, your request will be sent to the CA DMV for verification. If there are no problems, you will receive a confirmation email and notification that your digital ID has been successfully added to your app.
Since this is a private pass, you can only add your ID to one device. You won’t be able to sync it across multiple devices or the cloud for security purposes.
California is now the fifth state to use digital IDs on Google Wallet. They join the ranks of Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Maryland. Right now, this feature will only be available as a pilot test, which will be limited to the first 1.5 million participants.
It’s worth noting that some establishments will still require you to bring your physical ID for verification since it is still not widely accepted by all.
