Amazon's Eero just announced a game-changing solution for anyone tired of losing internet when their home connection fails. The new Eero Signal is a small device that automatically switches your home Wi-Fi to cellular data whenever your regular internet goes down, keeping you connected without any effort on your part.
As reported by Gizmodo, the Signal plugs directly into your existing Eero router through a USB-C connection and includes a built-in eSIM that works with multiple cellular carriers. When it detects that your home internet has stopped working, it instantly kicks in to provide backup connectivity through the cell network.
The device comes in two versions: a 4G LTE model for $99.99 launching early next year, and a faster 5G version for $199.99 coming in 2026. Both automatically switch back to your regular internet once service is restored. The Signal works with any USB-C powered Eero router that supports Wi-Fi 6 or newer.
There is one catch – you'll need an Eero Plus subscription to actually use the cellular backup. The basic plan costs $99.99 per year and includes 10GB of backup data, while a new Eero Plus 100 plan provides 100GB of monthly backup data for $199.99 annually. Eero says the 4G version can deliver speeds up to 150Mbps, while the 5G model reaches up to 220Mbps.
For households that frequently deal with internet outages due to weather, construction, or unreliable service, the Signal could be a worthwhile investment. Instead of scrambling to create a hotspot from your phone or losing connectivity entirely, your home network would seamlessly continue running on cellular data until your regular internet returns.
The timing makes sense as more people work from home and rely on stable internet for video calls, streaming, and smart home devices. While mobile hotspots from your phone can work as a temporary fix, having an automatic backup system built into your home network eliminates the hassle of manual switching and ensures all your devices stay connected during outages.
