FCC adds new requirements to fight spam calls and robocalls

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been actively doing its best to fight spam and scam callers. Aside from its STIR/SHAKEN campaign, the agency has required wireless carriers to block certain text messages.

As reported by PhoneScoop, wireless carriers in the country will now need to actively block text messages which are “highly likely to be illegal.” This includes the text messages from phone numbers that are unable or do not send text messages.

Additionally, the agency has released a new rule requiring more telecom companies to implement these protocols. 

Lastly, they are requiring all telecom providers “to take ‘reasonable steps’ to mitigate illegal robocall traffic.”
