Frequent flyers, your inflight connectivity experience is set to be even better soon.
Earlier today, the Seamless Air Alliance published its first ever standard for In-Flight Connectivity (IFC). This standard, called Seamless Release 1.0, puts in place a Modular Platform Architecture. With this system, new technologies can be adapted swiftly without the need for customization or total replacement of aircraft equipment.
The standard comes with a set of testable requirements that airlines can use when taking care of requests. This eliminates the risk of airlines in trying to predict how their systems will be impacted by future developments. This standard was conceptualized by a pool of experts under the member companies of Seamless Air Alliance, among which include Sprint, OneWeb, Airbus, Airtel, and Delta Air Lines.
For passengers, the standard was designed to have a more seamless and secure connection process. The standard supports Hotspot 2.0, which allows automatic and secure connection to Wi-Fi networks with authentication via their cellular carrier account.
