One of the best-kept secrets of those in the MVNO industry is the free plan being offered by FreedomPop. Unfortunately, it looks like this “freemium” plan will soon be going away.
Back in October, FreedomPop introduced this freemium plan to their customers as a way of being able to use certain data-based apps. The plan originally came with 500 texts, 200 minutes, and 200MB of LTE per month. But today, the MVNO made big changes to the plan. Some of those changes include a drastic cut to the allotted talk, text, and cellular data amounts. They have also pushed Wi-Fi calling and messaging to the forefront.
The AT&T MVNO also revealed that they will be kicking off users that were grandfathered into the old free plan after January 31st. In its place, FreedomPop has unveiled a new freemium plan that comes with unlimited Wi-Fi calling and messaging (inclusive of RCS messages). The plan also comes with 10 cellular voice minutes, 10 texts, and 25MB of LTE data per 30 days. Once that allotted threshold is reached, customers will be charged $8 for 500MB.
Another important change that FreedomPop made to the freemium plan is that customers will need to manually renew their plan on the website every 30 days. If they don’t do this, they might encounter problems with their service and they could lose their number.
