Good news to all Pixel device users. Google is getting ready to roll out its AI-powered Scam Detection feature and it’s heading towards these devices first.
As shared by AndroidAuthority, the latest beta update for the Phone app on Pixel devices will be getting the Scam Detection feature, which was first unveiled at I/O in May. It uses AI models to identify and notify device users of a potential scam call.
After recognizing conversation patterns that are pretty common in scam calls, the feature will deliver an haptic and audio alert plus a visual warning so that device users can be warned about a potential scam.
Calls are processed by Google entirely on the device, which is a privacy feature. This means that the audio or transcript of the conversation does not get sent to its servers.
The feature is set to off by default, which means that users need to activate it manually through the Phone app settings. They can choose to activate it for a particular call or all calls.
While the feature will be powered by Gemini Nano on-device AI model, Google is rolling out the feature on the Pixel 6 and newer models. This means that on older Pixel devices, the feature will use other machine learning models.
As of this writing, the feature currently supports English and is available on Pixel devices in the US. We’ll update this post once further information has been revealed about the feature.
