Verizon is once again claiming the top spot when it comes to wireless network performance in the U.S., based on the latest findings from RootMetrics. The independent research firm tested mobile network performance across all 50 states, 125 major metro areas, and the nation's busiest airports during the first half of 2024—and Verizon came out ahead in nearly every category.
The carrier earned Best Overall Network and Best 5G Network honors for the 20th time in a row. RootMetrics evaluated factors such as reliability, speed, data performance, and call quality. Verizon not only ranked first in overall performance but also led in five out of seven individual categories, including reliability and text performance.
What does that mean for everyday users? In simple terms, Verizon customers are more likely to get consistent call quality, faster downloads, and strong signal coverage whether they’re in big cities, small towns, or on the move. RootMetrics used real-world testing to measure how networks perform in normal conditions—walking down the street, driving across town, or even waiting at the airport.
Verizon says its continued investment in its network infrastructure, especially in 5G Ultra Wideband, has helped it maintain this leading position. The company’s 5G coverage now reaches over 250 million people, with more improvements expected throughout the year.
While all major carriers are pushing to improve their 5G networks, Verizon’s performance in this round of testing shows that it still has an edge when it comes to delivering fast and reliable mobile service nationwide.
