Google recently made a change to its contact syncing process on Android devices. Even though this is a minor change, it can cause a problem to users if not corrected. If you recently updated your device and found an empty contact list on your phone, don’t panic. There is an easy fix to this.
Android Authority recently reported on the change and how it affects devices. The update is part of Google’s May 24 update to Google Play Services (v23.20). The new version comes with new developer features and bug fixes.
Upon careful examination, the changelog details that when you turn off sync on Google Contacts, your previously synced entries will be removed from your Android device. Previously, Google would retain contacts on the phone but not sync the newly added numbers until a new sync schedule runs.
It’s important to highlight this as part of the update so that users won’t be shocked to find their contact list has been completely wiped out by the update. The report shares that the synced contacts can still be viewed on the web or any device by going to this site. These will stay unchanged unless the user decides to manually delete them.
