Google is giving Android users a couple of small but helpful upgrades in its Messages app—specifically for those who use RCS (Rich Communication Services) in group chats. These updates may not seem huge, but they could make your group conversations a lot less frustrating.
First up is a new visual cue that helps you quickly see whether you’re messaging a group chat using RCS. Android Authority reports that a small group icon now appears in the text input field, letting you know right away that you’re chatting with multiple people using RCS. This could be handy if you're bouncing between individual and group messages and want to be sure where your reply is going.
The second update is something that might be even more appreciated: the ability to snooze message notifications in group chats. This lets you mute the conversation for a set period of time—like an hour or more—so you’re not constantly interrupted. While this feature has popped up for some users, it’s not widely available yet. It seems to be part of a slow rollout, and Google hasn't officially announced it.
Both updates were spotted in the latest beta version of the Google Messages app. If you’re part of the beta program, you might see them show up soon—though there’s no clear timeline for when everyone else will get them.
