AT&T is shutting down some of its flagship stores. The store in question is located in downtown San Francisco on 1 Powell Street, to be specific.
The report comes from PhoneArena, who was able to speak to one of the staff members of the store. Their source revealed that the store will be closing in August.
This is an AT&T flagship store that has 24,000 square feet of space. The location opened in 2016 after having been vacated by its previous tenant, Bank of America.
The publication revealed that it spoke to an AT&T spokesperson, Chris Collins, who shed light into the reason behind the closure. As Collins revealed, the store is closing because of the changing shopping habits of AT&T’s customers. The brand is “changing with them.”
This means that the wireless carrier plans to cater to its customers “through the right mix of retail stores, digital channels, and our phone-based care team.”
In addition to the 1 Powell Street flagship store, AT&T will also close its flagship stores in Union Square, Chicago and San Francisco. The only AT&T flagship store that will remain open in the US will be in Dallas. These stores are expected to close in August, but no exact date has been revealed yet.
The AT&T spokesperson shared that the affected retail employees “will be offered jobs at one of our other many retail locations within the city.”
Despite closing down its 1 Powell Street store, AT&T has two other stores within a one-mile radius. Plus, there are 10 other locations throughout the city.
