There are circulating reports that T-Mobile is the latest victim of a massive customer data breach.
According to the report, the information of around 100 million users were accessed by the hackers. This information includes their social security numbers, unique IMEI numbers, names, physical addresses, phone numbers, and driver’s license information.
The report also shared that T-Mobile had already been alerted of the breach through a forum post. The hacker allegedly tried to sell a subset of the information he was able to get for six bitcoin (or around $260,000). The forum did not specifically mention T-Mobile. But when another publication asked the seller, he claimed he got the data from the servers of T-Mobile.
The hacker also shared that he was already removed from the server-- an indication that T-Mobile already found out about the hack. But despite this, the hacker was already able to download the customer information to his local computer.
T-Mobile addressed the report in a statement:
“We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity. We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”
We will update this post once we get more information.
