Yesterday, T-Mobile revealed that it had topped the results of Ookla’s latest 5G speed test for having the fastest and most available 5G network. But according to RootMetrics’ new report, it showed that AT&T actually has the top spot for 5G speed while T-Mobile holds the same record for 5G availability.
RootMetrics gathered data across 45 cities throughout the dates of January 15 until March 4, 2021. It’s also important to note that the results from Ookla’s test are crowdsourced from its app on the devices of users. Meanwhile, RootMetrics conducts drive-testing using specific devices. For this test, RootMetrics used two Samsung devices, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and the Galaxy S20+ 5G.
According to RootMetrics’ report, T-Mobile’s 5G network is available in 29 markets, an increase from the 13 it ranked in the previous report. AT&T hit 20 markets instead of the 3 it had from the last report. Verizon showed impressive growth though by having 3 markets instead of 1 market that it had in 2020.
