RootMetrics recently released the results of its latest study on cities in America with the fastest 5G network. The study is conducted twice every year by the analytics firm, with its newest installment shedding light on the 5G network performance of various cities and metropolitan areas across the United States for the second half of 2021.
As expected, frequent top-performing 5G cities such as Los Angeles and New York are once again ranked among the fastest out of more than a hundred cities evaluated from July to December of last year.
However, the winning city in RootMetrics’ latest analysis turned out to be one that few may be expecting.
With an overall score of 145.3 mbps for the second half of 2021, Louisiana’s Shreveport ran away with the 5G crown.
Yes, the third biggest city (in terms of population) in the Bayou State managed to beat the likes of LA, NYC, Miami, Chicago, Modesto, and Philadelphia (the previous winner back in 1H 2021), as well as two other Louisiana cities (state capital Baton Rouge and New Orleans).
Officially, RootMetrics’ newest study lists Shreveport, LA at the top, followed by California’s Modesto, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania’s Pittsburgh, and Virginia’s Hampton Roads.
For its 2H 2021 5G analysis, RootMetrics combined the 5G network performances of the nation’s Big Three (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) in determining the aggregate median download speed of each of the 109 US cities evaluated across the six-month period.
It bears noting that C-band 5G, Verizon and AT&T’s counter to T-Mobile’s 2.5 GHZ mid-band spectrum, had not been rolled out nationwide during the second half of 2021. Still, RootMetrics’ analysis revealed that the average download speeds in all 109 cities have improved.
