There’s no denying that satellite connectivity is getting all the rave right now. With its promising features, dead spots in the US will soon be a thing of the past. As more and more devices get equipped with this connectivity feature, more individuals will have access to a key security tool. And in times of an emergency, they no longer have to worry about getting a signal, especially in remote or disaster-stricken areas.
Luckily for Pixel device users, the feature is now available. This particularly benefits T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless customers who are using these devices:
T-Mobile: Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 9 series
Verizon: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The above-mentioned devices now have the ability to send text messages via satellite, thanks to Google’s March 2025 Google Pixel feature drop. Although the feature was initially available to T-Mobile users, Verizon’s recent partnership with Skylo has allowed the wireless carrier to offer it to newer Pixel models.
As of this writing, the feature only operates within the US and is designed for text messaging only. Voice calls, group messages, video, media attachments, encryption, emojis, and detailed sender/recipient activity are not yet supported. Moreover, the languages available are English and Spanish. T-Mobile users can also text 911 during emergencies using Starlink’s satellite connectivity.
Hopefully, this feature will soon be expanded to more devices.
